yoko.lennon is a Valladolid-based duo born in 2002. Dynamically loud, multidisciplinary and multifunctional, this duo resonates longer than a couple of very busy kids with concerts, installations and performances, moving about with all the gestural control of an ironmonger’s, thinking small, giving concerts for dinners, making radio shows and the like. En “Los Lirios del Bosque”, the second-to-last of los meterRruidos is a noise workshop for kids. Listen to the disc. The latest is a bit of black metal.
kg is a conference on North American composer John Cage, conceived to follow the chance-based techniques used by the composer himself in his compositions and presentations. To do so we used a programme that we developed ourselves in Max/MSP/Jitter, a multimedia programming environment featuring text, audio and video.
The show consists of a random generation module based on the I Ching, a Chinese fortune-telling method that dates back thousands of years. This module serves as the foundation for the indeterminate sequence of the different elements that make up our presentation performance. Those elements include selected texts, images, sounds and actions that in some way refer to the work and thought of the composer.
The computer programme is essentially a score. Always different in appearance yet identical in essence, the programme/score dynamically and indeterminately guides us through our performance, providing us with the texts to read and the stage directions for the reading itself, the physical actions that we are to perform, the images that we are to project, pre-recorded sounds and sounds collected during the conference itself. Thus the computer programme can be conceived as a meta-textual event that constructs the presentation itself, as each of our performances is an accident caused by this indeterminate reality. As a result, we establish a rhizomatic relation in which the content and the container, the generating element and the generated element act as strange magnets for one another, in a constant exchange of roles and functions which in turn establishes a symbiotic relationship with the composer’s work.
