Intro

THE SINKRO FESTIVAL is considered one of the country’s major events in the electro-acoustic music and new technologies field. A meeting place for composers, performers, sound experimentation labs and studios, the festival is a showcase for the work being developed in electronic and computer-assisted compositions and creations. A whole range of activities have been planned in order to introduce the public to the latest technological novelties being applied to music.

Major figures in contemporary creation have taken part in the SINKRO FESTIVAL, which unstintingly supports the most cutting-edge artistic currents, as well as the use of new technologies in its concerts.

2009 Programme

Sound artist Xabier Erkizia will kick-off the festival at the University’s School of Engineering (February 18) with a conference on sound art and the new expressive pathways that have opened up. Erkizia’s work is characterised by his research into and curiosity about diverse forms of art and communication. He intermingles styles such as rock, electronics, folk and improvisation in his projects and collaborations, which are always seen from an experimental prism.

The Festival moves to the Conservatory’s Aula Magna (Thursday 19) with a concert by the prestigious group Ensemble Aventure from Freiburg (Germany) featuring a selection of recent works based on a combination of acoustic and electronic instruments. Ensemble Aventure has a wide-ranging trajectory in this field, promotes new works and constantly collaborates in research and experimentation alongside a number of other composers.

Together with Vitoria-Gasteiz’ Laboratorio de Música Electroacústica, Ensemble Espacio Sinkro will be presenting a new electro-acoustic project (February 24) that is a fusion of instruments, live electronics, sound spatialisation and video projections. Recent works by young composers as well as works already considered twentieth-century classics will be performed. A combination of sound and visual elements with works that seek the viewer’s complicity and sensorial interaction.

A singular light and sound proposal, “Akusma 09″ will be the last of the Conservatory’s Aula Magna concerts (February 26). A selection of acousmatic works from the current international scene. An indispensable event for those who wish to discover new sounds thanks to the 16-channel acoustic sound projector system that has been installed in the auditorium.

The festival concludes in Artium (February 28) with “Soundpainting“, a show dedicated to the latest experimental music proposals from the Sirius group in interaction with painter Juan Luis Goenaga. The project proposes different ways technology can be applied to music, experimentation and the contrast with visual elements. An intense multidisciplinary voyage that will help listeners perceive new ways of hearing.
